When I graduated from university in 1992, I joined a software company in the printing industry which was a part of the ‘desktop publishing revolution’. The publishing world was beginning to answer the question, “What can a computer do for me?” and seeing real benefits from using these new tools. Looking back, it’s apparent that the benefits and opportunities that digital workflows bring in 2018 are more powerful than they were in those early days. It’s worth revisiting some of the habits and processes that we use as an industry and making sure that we’re realizing those benefits, not just working the same way we’ve always done, with flatter screens or faster processors. This is all the more important as some of us leverage the benefits of digital printing for new markets, such as packaging and textiles.
